Um, yes.

I think I might just keep posting to find out what else WordPress has to say to me.

“This is your 50th post. Tight! This post has 25 words.”

Thank you.

August 28, 2011

I just wanted to make it to 50 . . .

This message just greeted me when I published my last post:

“This is your 49th post. Rock! This post has 686 words.”

Yes, rock! ha.

Catching up on life. I’m alive!

1. I have to warn you, I am no less motivated than I was in my last blog post. (Uh,  back in June, approximately almost three months ago, apparently.) What happened?

2. Where does time go? Why cannot I just make it stop for a little while? Why does it have to be August 27th? Why is it already a little bit chilly outside at night? Why can’t I move back to LAST Saturday night when I was sitting on a Zona Rosa bench with two lovely Colleens eating some quite amazing Red Velvet frozen yogurt? Hmmm? August, don’t end. Heck, I was wish JUNE hadn’t ended. Alright, I’m over it, moving on.

3. Although I am in denial that this week will mark the beginning of September, there are some beautiful things to be thankful for. For one thing, it will soon be jeans and sweatshirts weather again. I realize that I am not in college anymore, nor have I been in quite awhile now that I think about it, but I still can’t get over my love of college comfort. For another thing, it will be sweater weather soon. Mmmmmm I LOVE sweaters almost as much as I love sweatshirts. Okay.

4. Do you want to know something? As I am sitting on my back patio, there are several bachelors having a bachelor cookout speaking French in the townhouse next to me. Whhaaat? But their BBQ smells ammmazing.

5. Back to Fall. Now, why have I never tried something this? Apple Cider Floats? Pure genius. I’m betting that some alcohol wouldn’t hurt in these, either.

6. While I am still drooling over these, I have to say that I am NOT HAPPY that I MISSED Pioneer Woman’s opening show on food network this a.m. Not that I have cable anyway, but that’s what gyms with free cable are for. Not to work out in, no sirree, that’s for sure.

7. Speaking of food, I have been under the weather for a while now . . . those two things together do not make any sense I realize . . . anyway. It basically means that I haven’t felt like eating in ages. Which has royally been not fun at all. But, lo and behold, I felt hungry tonight! So, what’s a KC girl to do? Go to T.G.I Friday’s and get a KC BBQ burger! Now, Friday’s does not have the best burgers in the world, but that’s really that’s all around here in suburban Mason, OH, so you have to roll with it . . . except that I could barely taste the BBQ. What’s a BBQ burger without the BBQ? Good thing I keep REAL KC BBQ sauce in my fridge for desperate times like these.

8. I have a thing for yellow dresses.

You can never have too many yellow dresses in your life. Never.

Too bad I don’t own any of these. Sigh.

9. I have a piano! I have actually had a piano since January but my lil piano has been getting kind of dusty lately. But no more. When I was home recently my mom informed me that I could take her old, gigantic two-volume church music books back to O-hio with me. So, I said yes, of course. Now, I did not quite take in account that when you fly you can only take one carry on and one “personal item.” So, I shoved my shoulder duffel bag and my laptop bag FULL of necessities, to be sure. It was darn heavy. Both of them. Sad day: I did not take into account that the Charlotte, NC airport does not have a shuttle between terminals. Ouch. Ouch. I am still in pain.

10. but never fear, do you know what is awesome for pain, or being sick, or just a warm fall night? Or any time of the year night? This.

This, my friend, will be your best friend for life. It’s over. If you’ve never heard of corn bag warmers then you have just discovered one of the best discoveries of your life. Congratulations.

11. I think ten was enough.

June 3, 2011

I am running out of exciting things to blog about. I sat here, in my living room, eating rye bread, for 3 whole minutes trying to come out with something to write about. And it didn’t happen. The whole point of this blog is to keep you updated on my life since I live a gazillion and a half miles away, and I must not lead an exciting life! …. if I can’t even think of a title for this blog post.

Alright, I’m sure you’re just as tired of reading about my non-exciting life as I of thinking about it. So, let’s move on.

For starters, in case you didn’t know….I am NOT a gazillion and a half miles away. I am home in Kansas City, the city of fountains. I am fascinated by new places, different cultures, food, and beautiful open spaces. So, I’m here in KC just letting some good ol’ culture sink in.

Cultural item number one. Gardens. These are a big part of any city, and you will be happy to know that I spent at least 6 hours in three different Gardens on Memorial Day. Yes. 6 hours. I went to the Kauffman’s gravesites, too. Sad thing: I don’t even know who the Kauffman’s are. All I know is that have a huge foundation and that our baseball stadium is named after them.

Second item: the Royals. Now. This is kind of a slightly bitter topic because I am not one to cheer for two baseball teams. It just feels cheater-like. After already having decided to become a Reds fan, it seems a little bittersweet to head downtown to watch the Royals play. But I like the Royals. Problem?

Festivals. These are amazing. I’m heading to Festa Italiana tonight….mmmmhmmmm. I. LOVE. Italian. Food.

You know what I have been dying for? Some amazing BBQ and a fat, huge burger with blue cheese and bacon. Hello, summertime. Some interesting places that I’ve decided to hit up while I’m home:

Yes, Oklahoma Joe’s. Arguably the best BBQ in KC…in a gas station.

KC Blues meets BBQ. I’ve never been here, but I am certainly dying to go.

Friday, Friday….

Seven Quick Takes Friday

1. This song is, once again, stuck in my head. It was introduced to me a month or so ago while I was teaching in a high school and ever since that fateful day….

2. This movie never gets old. “I came to Italy for you . . .”

3. I made these tonight . . .

4. I was in a girls high school this week. I am thoroughly exhausted. Getting up at 6 a.m. never gets easy for me, and in fact it probably gets considerably worse as the school year comes to a close. But, Praise God, it was an awesome week. These kind of comments left on our evaluations make it worth it: “I have a boyfriend who wants me to give him oral sex. I will now say NO. Thank you so much!”

5. Speaking of women, and chastity, this is currently on my nightstand:

6. I love Pope John Paul II.

“Meanwhile, you always step aside for Someone

from beyond,

who closes the door of your small room.

His coming softens with each step

and with this silence strikes

the target of the depths.”

Wow? I love him. Love him.

7. Weekends are a beautiful thing. I am ready for this one.

Seven Quick Takes….Tuesday.

 7 Quick Takes Tuesday.

1. Why Tuesday? Well, it sounds pretty schnazzy. Second of all, I am a procrastinator. But, most importantly, I actually have an excuse for my procrastination: I was in Virginia this weekend! Pretty exciting. I fell in love with VA all over again in the three days I spent admiring the Shenendoah Valley and the sunsets settling over the mountains.

2. Check this out:  I have fallen in love with this picture, but the issue is I don’t know where it is. I didn’t actually take this picture, due to my partly broken camera that’s been sitting and getting beat up in my purse for the past 9 months or so,  but I am quite sure, based on what I DID see, that it’s quite possible that something this beautiful does exist in this country. Matt insisted that his taking a shower was more important than driving on Skyline Drive. If this picture happens to be of Skyline Drive, I might possibly kill him the next time I come to Front Royal.

3. I stayed home from school today because I’m a woman, and I REALLY don’t feel well. I’m not looking forward to facing the possible wrath of my co-worker tomorrow. Men just can’t understand.

4. Last night night and the whole two hours of sleep and six tylenol has driven to finally consider “it”: the pink book.

5.  I work for a pregnancy center. Which always leads me to have interesting facebook ads. The latest: “Earn 35k by becoming a surrogate mother.” Uh, thanks but no thanks.

6. I am addicted to the Food Network Magazine and Everyday with Rachael Ray. My latest Food Network issue had some amazingly scrumptious-looking quick breads. Yep, this is it.

7. How incredibly beautiful.

“For the Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with JOY. ” – Psalm 126

” Totus tuus ego sum et omnia mea tua sunt. Accipio te in mea omnia. Praebe mihi cor tuum, Maria – I belong entirely to you, and all that I have is yours. I take you for my all. O Mary, give me your heart.”

April 12, 2011

First of all, I would like to point out that I have just completed MY LAST night program for the school year. YES. YES. YES. I cannot be excited enough….I love my job, but towards the end of the school year when 5 p.m. hits I am done and checked out.

You know another thing I’m tired of? The rain. Yes, the rain. I hate rain. I would rather it be tornado-ing out than raining. Maybe I’m just deluding myself, but I am positive that it was not this rainy out last spring….aside from the awesome 85 degree sunny weather yesterday, I can barely remember when the last time was that it was NOT raining. Which is extremely sad.

On a positive note, the Reds are doing well this year.

On another positive note, I am finally making it out to the D.C. area in a few weeks.

I love Holy Week. I can’t wait.

Did you know….that apparently the Best Burger in Kansas belongs to WINSTEAD’S? And, you probably already know this, but did you know that Winstead’s is just a Kansas City thing?! I did NOT know this. It’s kind of sad. Their root beer floats were the best.

This is an odd thought: I miss Worlds of Fun. Somehow my summers do not seem complete without it. I miss climbing the Patriot lift at what seemed like 20 times a week. I miss doing paperwork and stats in the Park Ops office until 2:30 a.m. on Saturday midnight closes. I miss the awful smell of the caf. I miss the 110 degree days out in the sun. I miss Lead meetings. I miss Sal. I miss climbing the Mamba lift at midnight and looking at the lights over Kansas City. I miss Rip Cord and the 200 question site controller tests. And the sometimes green-sometimes teal lake. And the  weird chinese music. And the Beatles playing in Camp Snoopy. I’m pretty sure that I miss waving to the train. I even miss the horrible, horrible tan lines on occasion. But only on occasion. Who would have thought?

I abandon myself into your hands;
do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you:
I am ready for all, I accept all.

Let only your will be done in me,
and in all your creatures –
I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Into your hands I commend my soul:
I offer it to you with all the love of my heart,
for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands without reserve,
and with boundless confidence,
for you are my Father.

– Blessed Charles de Foucauld

Food. Of course.

You know you’re a ridiculous foodie when:

– You watch the Food Network while you’re on the treadmill. [Defeats the purpose, if you ask me, as I’m bound to walk out with at least three new luxurious (translation: butter-laden) recipes to try.

– You write to the folks at the Rachael Ray magazine to tell them that their new cover design . . . well . . . could use another new makeover.

– You watch America’s Test Kitchen while you write blog posts.

– You stalk Pioneer Woman’s website like it’s your business. It practically is.

– You want Paula Deen to be your grandmother.

– You travel across the city to buy pumpkin because your local grocery store only sells it “in season.” In season? When is canned pumpkin NOT in season? You can always use some chocolate chip pumpkin bread in your life.

– You adore JuuuuuLYA Child. [That was an attempt to imitate her voice, in case you’re wondering if I’ve gone crazy and you’re just missing something.]

– You define your mood by what kind of food you are craving.

– You can’t live without chocolate.

– You love alcohol. All kinds of it. You put it in smoothies, in pies etc. just whatever floats your boat. Yep, that’s me.
